Alaska Visitor CenterLocated in Ketchikan, includes information on events,
ecosystems and native culture, recreation (like camping, wildlife viewing, etc.),
resources, rain forest information, learing center, and trip planning.
Alaska Climate Research CenterThe main
mission of this center is to respond to inquiries concerning the meteorology and
climatology of Alaska from public, private and government agencies, and from researchers
around the world. Most of the climatological data available for Alaska have been
accumulated in Fairbanks and by the state climatologist (Dwight Pollard) in Anchorage at
the Alaska State Climate Center (1 907 257 2737). Our center, the Alaska Climate Research
Center (1 907 474 7885), issues long-term climatological records and monthly summary
weather reviews which are published in several newspapers around the state. We also
conduct research on a number of high latitude meteorological & climatological topics
and provide useful links for related data. This service is provided free of charge,
provided the request is for small amounts of data.
Alaska Monthly
ClimatologyAlaska monthly temperatures for various Alaskan cities that includes,
highest and lowest temperatures, mean number of days with minimum temperature of 32
degrees F or less, average heating degree days, and average cooling degree days.

Weather
Information for Visitors to AlaskaWe often get requests from visitors to our web
site who are planning trips to Alaska, and who are interested in weather information. This
is understandable because Alaska is a new place for many people. We are happy to help and
fill such requests, but we have decided to put together a page so our users can find the
information they need without waiting for us to respond. Many requests we receive are in
the form of: "I am planning a trip to Alaska, and I would like to know what the
weather is like there." This simple sounding request is not easy to fulfill. The
writer did not state when or where they planned to visit. Alaska is a large state, and the
climatology ranges from temperate rain forests in the southeast, to barren tundra in the
north. And because of the extreme northern latitude of much of the state, the weather can
very considerably during the course of a year even at one location. On this page we have
gathered together information and placed in 6 areas that prospective visitors should use
to help plan their trips better: 1) Current Road Conditions, 2) Long Range Forecast, 3)
Standard Weather Forecast and Observations, 4) Climatology, 5) Daylight, and 6) Things
Alaskan and Search Engines. Brought to you by the Alaska Climate Research Center

National Climatic Data CenterWelcome to the
National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) WebSite!! The NCDC has a long history of providing
Climatological Services to nearly every sector of our economy. We hope you will take time
to explore our Satellite, Climate, and Radar Resources. Review What's New for our newest
pages and What's Hot for recent events and our most popular pages. Some of our data go
back over 150 years and some are as recent as one or two hours old. We have the prime
mission of preserving the data for future generations as well as making it available today
to all users. We have an international role of being the World Data Center-A for
Meteorology under the International Council of Scientific Unions and work closely with the
World Meteorological Organization. We have data for locations all around the World and not
just the United States.
GHCN Global Historical
Climatology Network: Max/Min TemperatureThe data summaries provided here are
based on data exchanged under the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) World Weather
Watch Program according to WMO Resolution 40 (Cg-XII). This allows WMO member countries to
place restrictions on the use or re-export of their data for commercial purposes outside
of the receiving country. From this page you can select a region of the world, e.g.,
Alaska, and make approriate selection to view temperature data for the region of your
choice. Brought to you by the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) above.

glacier? 5.Where are glaciers located? 6.What types of glaciers are there? 7.How do

Earth system. NSIDC archives analogue and digital snow and ice data, creates and
distributes data products, and maintains a large library collection in support of snow and
ice research.
Tiger
Map ServerMust be seen to be believed! This is a mapping service of the
U.S. Census Bureau. Click here and go directly to a map of downtown Anchorage.
From here you can zoom in or out on, or search for, any part of Alaska (or the U.S.
for that matter) that you want. You can generate a nice street map anywhere in the
state. Turn on and off layers of information and customize the maps to your hearts
content. You can even link to maps you generate from your own web pages. For more
information, go to the Tiger Map Service Home Page.
To begin mapping from the home page, click on TMS Version 2.5. The only real
drawback is that the streets are not named. Other than that, this is a fairly
remarkable "gift" from the U.S. Goverment.

Hubbard Glacier
USGS
EarthshotsHubbard Glacier In May 1986, the Hubbard Glacier briefly surged
down from the mountains, blocking the outlet of Russell Fiord and creating "Russell
Lake". All that summer the new lake filled with runoff; its water level rose 25
meters, and the decrease in salinity threatened its sea life. This site by the USGS
details this amazing situation in detail with photos and links to additional
information.
ASF ERS-1 SAR
ImageHubbard GlacierThis glacier originates in the Icefield Ranges and St.
Elias Mountains of Alaska and the Yukon Territory. Hubbard Glacier is about 120km long,
has an area of 3,400 square kilometres and terminates in Disenchantment Bay/Russell Fiord
near Yakutat, SE Alaska. It is the largest North American ice stream presently discharging
into tidewater. This site is hosted by the ASF. ASF's primary mission is to acquire,
process, archive, and distribute satellite Synthetic Aperture Radar
(SAR) data for the U.S. government and research communities. ASF (see above) is housed
within the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is primarily
funded through NASA's Earth Observing System.
