Alaska Climate Research Center—The main mission of this center is to respond to inquiries concerning the meteorology and climatology of Alaska from public, private and government agencies, and from researchers around the world. Most of the climatological data available for Alaska have been accumulated in Fairbanks and by the state climatologist (Dwight Pollard) in Anchorage at the Alaska State Climate Center (1 907 257 2737). Our center, the Alaska Climate Research Center (1 907 474 7885), issues long-term climatological records and monthly summary weather reviews which are published in several newspapers around the state. We also conduct research on a number of high latitude meteorological & climatological topics and provide useful links for related data. This service is provided free of charge, provided the request is for small amounts of data.
Alaska Monthly Climatology—Alaska monthly temperatures for various Alaskan cities that includes, highest and lowest temperatures, mean number of days with minimum temperature of 32 degrees F or less, average heating degree days, and average cooling degree days.   Indudes links to Current Weather, Weather Forcast, and Weather Links.  Part of the Alaska Climate Research Center above.

Weather Information for Visitors to Alaska—We often get requests from visitors to our web site who are planning trips to Alaska, and who are interested in weather information. This is understandable because Alaska is a new place for many people. We are happy to help and fill such requests, but we have decided to put together a page so our users can find the information they need without waiting for us to respond. Many requests we receive are in the form of: "I am planning a trip to Alaska, and I would like to know what the weather is like there." This simple sounding request is not easy to fulfill. The writer did not state when or where they planned to visit. Alaska is a large state, and the climatology ranges from temperate rain forests in the southeast, to barren tundra in the north. And because of the extreme northern latitude of much of the state, the weather can very considerably during the course of a year even at one location. On this page we have gathered together information and placed in 6 areas that prospective visitors should use to help plan their trips better: 1) Current Road Conditions, 2) Long Range Forecast, 3) Standard Weather Forecast and Observations, 4) Climatology, 5) Daylight, and 6) Things Alaskan and Search Engines.  Brought to you by the Alaska Climate Research Center above.

Hubbard Glacier
USGS Earthshots—Hubbard Glacier —In May 1986, the Hubbard Glacier briefly surged down from the mountains, blocking the outlet of Russell Fiord and creating "Russell Lake". All that summer the new lake filled with runoff; its water level rose 25 meters, and the decrease in salinity threatened its sea life. This site by the USGS details this amazing situation in detail with photos and  links to additional information.
ASF ERS-1 SAR Image—Hubbard Glacier—This glacier originates in the Icefield Ranges and St. Elias Mountains of Alaska and the Yukon Territory. Hubbard Glacier is about 120km long, has an area of 3,400 square kilometres and terminates in Disenchantment Bay/Russell Fiord near Yakutat, SE Alaska. It is the largest North American ice stream presently discharging into tidewater. This site is hosted by the ASF. ASF's primary mission is to acquire, process, archive, and distribute satellite Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data for the U.S. government and research communities. ASF (see above) is housed within the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is primarily funded through NASA's Earth Observing System.
