Printing Panoramas
Once you have stitched, touched up, and saved your panoramas, you are sure to want a high-quality print suitable for framing and hanging on your wall. This can be done by using your personal printer, which is typically limited in size, or taking your file to someone with a large-format printer. The things to consider when printing are:
- Size
- Paper
- Ink
Size really does matter, at least when it comes to panoramas. Dependig on the number of shots in your panorama, in order for it to be 5 or 6 inches tall, it may be 50 or 60 inches long. Some of Cruise on the Web's panoramas are over 100 inches long and only about 4" tall (the panorama of Sydney harbor entrance for one!). Size will determine the printer that can be used to print your panorama.
Paper determines the look of the print, from a glossy bright finish, to an understated matte finsih. Paper runs from glossy to photo satin, to matte, and prints can be made on canvas. Each has its features and benefits, and each impacts color. For a great general purpose print, a photo-satin paper makes beautiful memory.
Ink impacts the overall colors and longevity (along with paper selection) of a print. A printer with 6 colors will create a photo quite differently than a printer with, say, 8 or 12. Some inks will last about the same as a regular photograph, while others are rated at 200 year fade-resistance framed under glass. Your choice of ink will affect the longevity of your print.
